AAPI Mental Health Information for Students
AAPI Students encounter mental health distress in many ways. However, for many reasons, mental health distress is seldom discussed openly with others.
This Student Brochure on AAPI Mental Health provides information identifying common symptoms and stressors that AAPI students might experience throughout their college experience. It also includes information about connecting with counseling resources.
There are a few organizations specializing in AAPI Mental Health. The Asian American Psychological Association provides Fact Sheets on Mental Health that you can access here: https://aapaonline.org/publications/fact-sheets/ The National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) also provides more info specific to AAPIs here: https://bit.ly/2A6mnPL.
Contact Mental Health Coordinator Marcia Liu (ML2138@hunter.cuny.edu) for a paper copy of the brochure.
Not necessarily. The brochure discusses race-related and immigration related stress, however many other experiences are also distressing for AAPI mental health (e.g. queer-related stress, body image issues, financial stress, and chronic physical illness). HCAP aims to increase awareness of all AAPI stressors through their outreach on campus.
