Transfer Pipeline Program Peer Mentors

The HCAP Transfer Pipeline Program provides peer mentorship and support to transfer students during their first semester at Hunter College. While open to all, this program focuses on Asian American and other first-generation college students who are transferring into Hunter from other CUNY community colleges. This program is supported by the Hunter College AANAPISI Project (HCAP) and the BMCC-Hunter AANAPISI Bridge Initiative (ABI). HCAP/ABI programming is open to all regardless of identity.

Transfer Peer Mentors commit to participating in the program for the summer training and full academic year.* We are not accepting applications currently.

Eligibility

To be considered for the Transfer Peer Mentor position, students must:

  • Be enrolled at Hunter College as an undergraduate student for the Fall 2023 – Spring 2024 school year.
  • Have completed at least two full Fall or Spring semesters** at Hunter before applying. (Note: Winter and Summer semesters do not count towards eligibility.)
  • Be able to commit to ALL summer training, fall, and spring semester responsibilities.
  • Be in good academic standing.
  • Have a desire to support other Hunter students in navigating college, especially those who are incoming transfer students who identify as Asian American and/or are first-generation college students.

Transfer Peer Mentor Responsibilities

During Summer 2023 Mentors are expected to:
  • Attend summer in-person training: 6 sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:00-5:00pm (7/25, 7/27, 8/1, 8/3, 8/8, and 8/10). Mentors must attend ALL sessions at Hunter College’s main campus.
  • Help host Mentee welcome event on August 15th at 6:00-7:30 pm via Zoom.

During Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 Semester Mentors are expected to:
  • Meet twice per month with two assigned mentees. (2 in the Fall + 2 in the Spring totaling 4 separate mentees over the academic year).
  • Attend monthly check-in meetings with HCAP staff.
  • Assist in one HCAP community event per semester.

Compensation

$250 stipend for Summer 2023 training
$800 stipend for each semester (Fall 2023 and Spring 2024)

*Please note that the HCAP Transfer Pipeline Program is separate from Hunter’s Transfer Peer Advisor (TPA) Program, which is run by the Office of Advising at Hunter College. We recommend committing to only one of these programs at a time.

**The two full semesters don’t have to be consecutive. We accept applications from students who may have taken breaks during the academic year.
