Transfer Pipeline Program Peer Mentors

The HCAP Transfer Pipeline Program provides peer mentorship and support to new transfer students at Hunter College. This program is supported by the Hunter College AANAPISI Project (HCAP). HCAP programming is open to students of ALL identities and backgrounds.

Spring 2026 Cycle is CLOSED.

Transfer Peer Mentors commit to participating in the program for the January 2026 training and Spring 2026 semester.

We accept 6 applicants into the program. Peer Mentors will receive hands-on leadership coaching and skills training to become peer mentors who can assist new transfer students in navigating their Hunter experience and building community. Training topics include: mentorship and leadership skills, public speaking, facilitation, sharing Hunter resources, and event planning.

Eligibility

To be considered for the Transfer Peer Mentor position, students must:

  • Be enrolled at Hunter College as an undergraduate student for the Spring 2026 school year.
  • Have completed at least two full Fall or Spring semesters** at Hunter before applying. (Note: Winter and Summer semesters do not count towards eligibility.)
  • Be able to commit to ALL January training and Spring 2026 semester responsibilities.
  • Be in good academic standing.
  • Have a desire to support other Hunter students in navigating college, especially new transfer students who identify as first-generation college students.
  • Applicants who transferred to Hunter and/or are a first-generation college student (your parent(s) did not attend college in this country) are encouraged to apply to become a Transfer Peer Mentor. However, you are welcome to apply even if you do not identify as either.

Commitments & Responsibilities

During January 2026, Mentors are expected to:
  • Attend 4 in-person training sessions (Tuesday-Friday: 1/20, 1/21, 1/22, 1/23 @ 12-5pm).
  • Mentors must attend ALL sessions at Hunter College’s main campus.

During Spring 2026 Semester, Mentors are expected to set aside 5 hours/week to:
  • Help host Mentee welcome event via Zoom on Wednesday, February 11th @ 5-6pm.
  • Meet at least once per month with up to four assigned mentees.
  • Hold 90-min weekly drop-in hours at a designated community space on-campus.
  • Attend monthly check-in meetings with HCAP staff.
  • Assist in 1 community event per semester.

Compensation

$500 stipend at the end of the January 2026 training
$2,000 stipend for Spring 2026 semester (1/2 payment in late February, 1/2 payment in early May)

Accepted students must go through a hiring process through the Research Foundation of CUNY. Peer Mentors are hired as part-time employees and must be able to present identification documents during the onboarding process.
