Stipend: $500
Applications deadline extended!
Winter 2023 BMCC-Hunter ABI Faculty Seminar Series
Theme: Why am I Here, Again? Students and Instructors Finding Purpose, Identity, and Belonging in the Classroom (Online)
This January, we invite BMCC and Hunter colleagues from all disciplines to participate in an online seminar series focusing on students’ sense of purpose and belonging, and racial/cultural experiences in college. This seminar will explore how we can better catalyze our students’ sense of connection to our course content, their own identities, and each other through meaningful teaching activities, while also working to meet our own professional and personal demands. Through guided discussions, guest speakers, and independent and group project time, participants will learn, discuss, and reflect on their students’ classroom experiences and then create and share a teaching innovation (e.g. class activity, assignment/project, teaching tool, etc.) for a course they plan to teach in Spring 2023 or later. Participants who attend all sessions and complete a teaching innovation for a future course will receive a stipend of $500.
Kickoff: Wednesday Dec 14, 11-12:30pm
Seminar Sessions:
Tues 1/10 – 1-3:30pm
Fri 1/13 – 1-3:30pm
Tues 1/17 – 1-3:30pm
Fri 1/20 – 1-3:30pm
Link to the Application: https://bit.ly/W23FSS
Application Deadline EXTENDED: Monday, November 21
We will accept up to 20 participants for this seminar. All applicants should demonstrate an interest in the themes of identity and race as they apply to teaching. We will be offering similar opportunities in the future as part of a 5-year grant.
