The BMCC- Hunter AANAPISI Bridge Initiative (ABI) is a partnership between Borough of Manhattan Community College, CUNY and Hunter College, CUNY that provides student programs and faculty development to support the diverse needs of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) and other high-need students at BMCC and Hunter, with a focus on those who are immigrant students, first-generation college students, English Language Learners, and students from low-income families.
ABI is funded through a five-year collaborative grant (2020-2025) from the U.S. Department of Education’s Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) program.
Workshops and student success seminars for BMCC and Hunter students that explore topics including: Asian American identities, financial literacy, mental health, navigating college, and academic skills.
Peer mentorship program targeting Asian American and/or first-generation college students who are incoming transfer students to Hunter College.
A multi-year assessment to gather data on BMCC’s diverse Asian and Asian American student population using surveys, focus groups and informal discussion.
BMCC and Hunter faculty development on incorporating students’ lived experiences in the classroom.
